Thoughts muddling through the week are on statistics and global warming.
It seems when you dig through the scientific sites, instead of the news sites, you get a completely different view of global warming. On the news sites you get a constant barrage of gloom and doom and we are all probably going to drown, from rising sea level, or burn up, from the temperature rising, on the scientific sites we get a little different story. They report this year the temperature will be cooler than 1998, and the warming was at it's peak from 1980 through 1997 at that point the warming leveled off and has been flat for the last 14 years. But this does not make good news stories so you will have to look hard to find statistics like these. By the way these statistics are based on numbers from NASA, and the US and British National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administrations. Some will say we have seen increased numbers of hurricanes, in recent years caused by global warming, again this makes for good news stories, but it is simply not true, hurricane numbers have remained about the same since the early 1900's. The record years for the number of hurricanes are 1949 and 1961.
So the thought today is I bet global warming was a bitch in 1949 considering there was no air conditioning, or did they not feel the need to attribute nature to anything man made.
